To be included in this directory, you must meet the following standards and criteria:
Standard 1
The acknowledged expert in a particular field of physiotherapy is a member of The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and has a curriculum vitae which indicates relevant education and experience.
Criteria for standard 1
1 The physiotherapist subscribes annually to The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
2 The physiotherapist conforms to rules of professional conduct for Chartered physiotherapists.
3 After initial postgraduate education, the physiotherapist has a minimum of five further years experience or equivalent in a specialist field.
4 The physiotherapist provides evidence of relevant postgraduate education which may include:-
- A relevant validated course
- A relevant postgraduate qualification
- A publication within the relevant speciality
- Production of relevant written and visual education material
- Evidence of regular updating
- Active membership of any relevant interest group(s)
5 The physiotherapist provides evidence of expert witness training.
Standard 2
The physiotherapist is recognised as an expert by peers.
Criteria for standard 2
The physiotherapist provides evidence of lecturing/teaching on the speciality to physiotherapists and/or other professionals.

Background
These standards and criteria for Expert Witnesses were formulated by the Quality Assurance Working Party of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and published in “Physiotherapy” in November 1993 when the first call for physiotherapy Expert Witnesses occurred.
